Module 1

Arrows

“As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.”

Psalm 127:4

Read: Psalm 127 · Psalm 78:1–8

Children are arrows. Not trophies, not burdens, not accessories. Arrows are made to be aimed and released. Your job is not to keep them safe forever. It is to make them straight, sharp, and pointed at the target, and then to let them fly.

Psalm 78 says one generation tells the next the praises of the Lord so that they set their hope in God. That is the aim. Not good grades, a good team, or a good job. Hope in God.

Wrestle with it

  • What are you actually aiming your children at?
  • What would your kids say you care about most, based on what you spend time on?

The charge

Tell each of your children one true thing God says about them tonight.

Module 2

Train up

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22:6

Read: Proverbs 22:6 · Proverbs 13:24 · Hebrews 12:5–11

Training is not lecturing. Soldiers are trained by drills, correction, repetition, and example. Your kids learn to pray by praying with you. They learn to repent by watching you repent. They learn courage by watching you stand.

Discipline is love. God chastens those He loves. A parent who will not correct a child is not being kind. They are handing the enemy a foothold. Correct early, correct calmly, and always bring them back to grace.

Wrestle with it

  • What is one drill your family could run daily: a verse, a prayer, a question at dinner?
  • Where are you avoiding correction because it is easier?

The charge

Start one daily drill with your kids this week. Keep it small enough to never miss.

Module 3

Guard the gate

“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.”

Psalm 101:3

Read: Psalm 101 · Matthew 18:6–7 · Deuteronomy 11:18–21

The enemy does not need to break down your door if you hand him the tablet. What your children watch, play, listen to, and follow is forming them, every day, with or without you. Know what it is.

Jesus had a millstone in mind for anyone who leads a child into sin. Take that seriously. Set the standard in your house, hold it with love, and explain why. A guarded gate is not a prison. It is a fortress.

Wrestle with it

  • Do you actually know what is on your children’s screens?
  • What has crept into your home that you would never have allowed five years ago?

The charge

Audit every screen in your house this week. Remove what fails Psalm 101:3.

Module 4

Send them

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

1 Timothy 4:12

Read: 1 Timothy 4:12 · 1 Samuel 17:32–37 · Luke 2:41–52

David was the youngest, the overlooked one, and he was the one who killed the giant. He had been fighting lions and bears in the field while nobody watched. Give your children real responsibility and real battles. Let them serve, give, pray out loud, and lead.

Do not raise kids who need you forever. Raise warriors who need God. Then release them, and keep praying.

Wrestle with it

  • What real responsibility can you hand your child this month?
  • Are you raising them to be safe, or to be sent?

The charge

Give one of your children a job in the Kingdom this week: pray for the meal, serve a neighbor, read the Scripture at the table.
