Module 1

Be strong in the Lord

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”

Ephesians 6:10

Read: Ephesians 6:10–13

Paul does not tell you to be strong. He tells you to be strong in the Lord. That is a different thing entirely. The strength that stands in the evil day is not grit, willpower, or a good night’s sleep. It is borrowed. It comes from the power of His might, the same power that raised Jesus from the grave (Ephesians 1:19–20).

Notice who the enemy is. Not flesh and blood. Not your boss, your ex, or the people on the news. Principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world. If you fight the wrong enemy you will lose the real war. The armour is for the real one.

Wrestle with it

  • Where have you been trying to be strong in your own strength this month?
  • Who have you been treating as the enemy that is actually flesh and blood?

The charge

Say Ephesians 6:10 out loud before your feet hit the floor tomorrow.

Module 2

The Belt of Truth

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth.”

Ephesians 6:14

Read: Ephesians 6:14 · John 8:31–36 · Psalm 51:6

The belt went on first. It held the breastplate in place and it was where the sword hung. Everything else depended on it. Truth is the same. Take truth out of a life and every other virtue slides off.

Two kinds of truth here. The truth of God, which is His Word, and truthfulness in you. A man or woman who lies, even small lies, even to themselves, cannot stand. The enemy is a liar and the father of it. He cannot get a grip on someone who is girded with truth.

Wrestle with it

  • What lie about yourself have you been living with as if it were true?
  • Is there a small dishonesty in your life you have been calling something else?

The charge

Tell the truth today, in every conversation, even when a softer version is available.

Module 3

The Breastplate of Righteousness

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

2 Corinthians 5:21

Read: Ephesians 6:14 · Romans 3:21–26 · Isaiah 59:15–17

The breastplate covers the heart. The enemy aims there with accusation: you are a fraud, God is done with you, look what you did. The only armour that stops that dart is a righteousness that is not yours. Christ’s righteousness, put on you by faith, cannot be argued with because you did not earn it.

But righteousness is also lived. A soldier who takes the breastplate off to sin has exposed his heart. Walk clean, not to earn His favor, but because you already have it and the fight is real.

Wrestle with it

  • When the accuser speaks, do you answer with your record or with Christ’s?
  • Is there an area where you have taken the breastplate off?

The charge

Write 2 Corinthians 5:21 on a card and read it every time you feel condemned today.

Module 4

Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace.”

Isaiah 52:7

Read: Ephesians 6:15 · Romans 10:13–17 · Isaiah 52:7–10

Roman soldiers wore studded sandals so they could hold their ground and march long distances. The gospel gives you both. Footing, because you have peace with God and nothing can move you. Readiness, because peace is meant to be carried to others.

A warrior for Christ is not a warrior against people. You go into your home, your job, and your town as someone bringing peace. That is the good news. Be ready to tell it, not just live it.

Wrestle with it

  • Who in your life has never heard you say, plainly, what Jesus did for you?
  • Do you have peace with God today, or are you standing on something shakier?

The charge

Tell one person the gospel this week. Start with the person that came to mind.

Module 5

The Shield of Faith

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”

Ephesians 6:16

Read: Ephesians 6:16 · Hebrews 11:1–6 · Psalm 3

The Roman shield was the size of a door, soaked in water so flaming arrows would go out on impact. Faith works the same way. Fear, lust, despair, doubt: they come in hot and they come in fast. Faith is not pretending they are not there. Faith is holding up what God has said and letting the dart die on it.

Shields also locked together. A line of soldiers formed a wall. Your faith is stronger beside a brother or sister’s. This is why we do not fight alone.

Wrestle with it

  • Which fiery dart hits you most often right now?
  • Who is standing shield-to-shield with you? If no one, who could?

The charge

Find the verse that answers your most frequent dart and memorize it this week.

Module 6

The Helmet of Salvation

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Ephesians 6:17

Read: Ephesians 6:17 · Romans 8:31–39 · 1 Thessalonians 5:8–11

The helmet protects the mind. The enemy would love to make you doubt that you are saved, or make you forget it. A soldier who is not sure he will survive fights timidly. A believer who knows they are secure in Christ fights free.

Salvation is not a feeling to be checked each morning. It is a fact to be worn. Nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Put that on and think from it.

Wrestle with it

  • Do you fight from security or from fear of losing your standing?
  • What thought pattern needs a helmet?

The charge

Memorize Romans 8:38–39. Say it when your mind starts to run.

07

Module 7

The Sword and the Prayer

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance.”

Ephesians 6:18

Read: Ephesians 6:17–20 · Matthew 4:1–11 · Hebrews 4:12

Every piece so far has been defensive. The sword is the only weapon. And it is not your opinions or your arguments. It is the Word of God, spoken. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness He did not debate. Three times He said, “It is written.” That is how you swing the sword.

And then Paul says: pray. Always. All kinds of prayer. Watching. The armour is put on in prayer and it is kept on in prayer. A warrior who does not pray is a warrior who is not actually in the fight.

Wrestle with it

  • Can you answer your three biggest temptations with “It is written”? Which verses?
  • What does “praying always” look like in an ordinary Tuesday?

The charge

Suit up in prayer every morning this week. Use the Armor Up ritual on this site and pray each piece on.
