S.O.A.P.

The simplest method there is, and the one most people should start with. Four steps, one page, fifteen minutes. Read the passage, write what you see, decide what you will do, pray it back. Do this daily for a month and you will know more Bible than most people learn in years.

    The passage

    Where are you studying today?

A verse, a few verses, or a chapter. Read it right here before you write anything.

  2. 02

    S · Scripture

Write out the verse or verses that stood out.

Word for word. Writing slows you down enough to notice.

  3. 03

    O · Observation

    What do you see?

Who is speaking, to whom, and why? Commands, promises, warnings. Repeated words. What surprised you?

  4. 04

    A · Application

What changes today because of this?

Be specific: a name, a time, an action. “Be more loving” is not an application. “Call Dad tonight and apologize” is.

  5. 05

    P · Prayer

Pray the passage back to God.

Thank Him for what it showed you. Confess where it caught you. Ask for the strength to do it.
